Moonshine in Florida? It’s Not What You Think

Moonshine in Florida? It’s Not What You ThinkThe mention of “moonshine” typically conjures images of illegal stills in the Appalachian Mountains. It now appears that legal and authentic Mountain Moonshine will now be available for purchase in the state of Florida.

Through a partnership with Florida-based Southern Wine & Spirits, Sugarlands Distilling Company’s moonshine, from the mountains of East Tennessee, is now available statewide for purchase in package stores, bars and restaurants.

“We’re thrilled to expand our line of Sugarlands Shine to the great state of Florida,” said Brent Thompson, director of strategy for Sugarlands Distilling Company. “We’ve met some great people from Florida who have sipped our shine at our Gatlinburg, Tennessee distillery. Now, they can purchase our shine in their home state.”

The company currently offers seven different varieties of award-winning moonshine, including a 100-proof unaged rye, ‘legal’ version of TV personality and legendary moonshiner Jim Tom Hedrick. Other varieties include Silver Cloud, Appalachian Apple Pie, Blockader’s Blackberry, Butterscotch Gold, Old Fashioned Lemonade and Southern Sweet Tea.

“We believe in making spirits that are respectful of Tennessee’s great moonshine heritage while also appealing to today’s modern palate,” said Thompson. “We’re proud to tout a deeply-rooted, authentic approach to the craft of moonshine distilling. Our flavors are enjoyable to drink, well-balanced, and true to their names.”
