Pepsi Max Index for Music

Pepsi Max Index for Music

With help from Bluefin Labs, Pepsi has launched an internet music ranking system which aggregates data from social media sites. The platform, dubbed the Pepsi Max Index, provides visitors to the index with a Top 250 of popular and emerging musical talent.

The company launched the new index this week in conjunction with the South by Southwest Music festival at the Fader Fort in Austin, TX.

While the exact algorithm for computing the top 250 list is a closely guarded secret, the overriding principle is simple. The system scans major social media sites to determine what people are talking about when it comes to music. The data is then analyzed to create the index of the top 250.

“We’re excited about the possibilities inherent in the Pepsi Music Index, the value it can provide to the music community and look forward to learning and continuing to refine the index together with fans and the music community,” said Shiv Singh, head of digital for PepsiCo Beverages.

The system’s ability to gather data and create an index in real-time makes it unique. Pepsi feels that this platform will have the best chance of finding emerging artists who have a real chance for success based on mass opinions shared online.
