New Search Site makes Renting Movies and Finding Craigslist Deals Much Easier

Craigslist is a fantastic site for finding deals on almost anything. It has all but made newspaper classifieds obsolete. However, anyone who has scoured craigslist in the past knows that it can be difficult to expand your search beyond your immediate vicinity. A new internet search site called SearchTempest.com makes that much easier.

SearchTempest.com is a site that bills itself as “The easy way to search craigslist.” Nathan Stretch, founder of SearchTempest, explains that he started the site one hot summer after searching unsuccessfully for a used portable air conditioner. “Every day I would diligently check the four or five craigslist cities within driving distance. Perhaps because it was about 90 degrees in my apartment, I quickly grew impatient with repeatedly typing in the same keywords at 5 different sites. I figured there must be a better way.”

Stretch developed SearchTempest. With this new site users can enter their category and keywords once and immediately get results from all the craigslist cities within a distance they specify. Search anywhere from 25 miles out to the entire planet. Or, pick and choose states and cities to search.

According to Stretch, “everything about SearchTempest is highly customizable. Choose whether to only show ads with pictures, search titles only, exclude keywords from your search, and more. Matching results from eBay or Amazon are optional, and if you want you can customize how the results are sorted and displayed. (Of course if none of that interests you, you can always just type in your zip and what you’re looking for, and hit go.)”

Once he completed SearchTempest, Stretch saw an opportunity to deploy his location based search tool to another problem area. Finding the movie rental store near you that has what you want to see in stock. Instead of searching all of the various store web sites, like RedBox, Blockbuster and others, Stretch created MovieTempest.com.

Much like what SearchTempest does for Craigslist searches, MovieTempest searches all of your local movie rental locations to find the DVD or Bluray you are looking for and displays a map to show you which store to go to.

Since creating his sites, Stretch has received a lot of press. Print magazines like The Old House (No. 124) wrote, “[SearchTempest is] a site that lets you troll through all Craigslist locales, or just specific ones, to find the best bargains around the country.”

Many web sites have also had a lot of good things to say about Stretch’s creation. “SearchTempest aggregates locale Craigslist searches in an as-big-as-you-want-it search radius to help you find the best deals.”, said lifehacker.com, while makeuseof.com wrote, “Search Tempest separates itself from most Craigslist search engines right off the bat by providing an interface that actually looks professional instead of like something a teenager might have coded ten years ago.”
