Shaun White Fails to 3-peat in Snowboard Half-pipe – Watch Replay of Finals in Sochi Olympics Online

Shaun White Fails to 3-peat in Snowboard Half-pipe – Watch Replay of Finals in Sochi Olympics OnlineThe picture says it all as a dejected Shaun White walks off in front of the stunned Gold Medal winner Iouri Podladchikov.

Last night Shaun White was expected to become the first US athlete to win a Gold medal in the same event for the 3rd consecutive Olympics at the games in Sochi. Unfortunately, fate was not on his side. If you missed it, you can watch a replay video of the snowboard finals from the 2014 Olympics online free.

Ironically, if Shaun White had performed the same “safe” run which he made in the qualifying round, for which he earned a score of 52.25, White would have taken home the gold.

Instead it was Iouri Podladchikov, Russian born but now living in and representing Switzerland, who won the gold in snowboard halfpipe. Podladchikov scored 94.75 on the winning run which included his signature “yolo” (you only live once) cab double cork 1440.

To watch the full replay of the snowboard halfpipe competition online, as well as other winter Olympic action online, you can rely on the NBCOlympics.com web site, or download the NBC Live Extra app to stream live or recorded video from Sochi to your tablet, computer or mobile device.

Iouri Podladchikov, who invented the YOLO, and Shaun White are the only two showboarders in the world who have ever successfully landed the move in a competition.

While many had expected White to make a conservative first run and then go for broke on the final run, the 2-time Olympic champion decided to go big on his first run in the finals.

Unfortunately, due in part to poor half-pipe conditions, White faltered on the first run leaving him in the unusual position of having to win the competition with his second and final run.

Needing better than a 93.5 to beat out Ayumo Hirano, a 15-year-old Japanese schoolboy for silver, White unexpectedly only scored just better than 90 leaving him in 4th place – completely out of the medals.
