Along with Woods, the other two players sharing the #1 spot on the 2012 U.S. Open Leaderboard going into Saturday are David Toms and Jim Furyk. Each of the three turned in a 69 or 70 score on day one and two to share the lead with 36 holes to go today and Sunday.
For those enjoying Father’s day tuned into a favorite sport for many Dads, Sunday could very likely provide for a good show.
Playing like the Tiger of years past on Friday, one commentator said that it was the first time the Woods actually looked comfortable “in his own skin” since the scandal in his personal life.
Tiger moved into a tie for the lead on Friday with a birdie putt on the 13th hole. Coming into 17, formerly a par 4 and now par 5, Tiger tried to really make a move going for the green on his second shot and setting himself up for an eagle putt. But the well-known downward slope of the back side of the green proved too much for Tiger’s 5 iron shot. Landing on the green with too much forward momentum, the ball rolled off the green and then about another 20 yards down the back slope.
Tiger recovered well, however with a third shot about 10 feet from the cup and still a chance to birdie and move to -2 and sole possession of the lead. Unfortunately Woods’ putt went just to the left edge of the cup making him settle for par. With a par on 18, Woods remained on top with Toms and Furyk going into play today.
