The list is out, as the list of 2013 Academy Awards Oscar nominations were released on Thursday. The ceremony is the pinnacle for most in the film industry and considered a top honor from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
With the list of the Oscar nominees now public, the voting begins. Ballots are now due to be submitted over the next 40 days. But the voting will not be easy given the number of past Oscar winners included in the 2013 nominations.
In the Category of Best Supporting Actor, 5 previous Academy Award winners have been nominated. They are: Alan Arkin, who won Best Supporting Actor in Little Miss Sunshine, now nominated for his role in Argo. De Niro, a two-time Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actor in The Godfather Part II Best Actor in Raging Bull, has been nominated in Silver Linings Playbook. Christoph Waltz, who won Best Supporting Actor for his role in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, is now up for the same award in 2013 for Django Unchained.
For his current role in The Master, Philip Seymour Hoffman, could add to his 2006 Academy Award for Best Actor in Capote. Finally, 1994 Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner for The Fugitive, Tommy Lee Jones, is also one of the 5 up for another Oscar this year for Lincoln.
