For those too young to remember, Andy Rooney’s career as a reporter and writer goes back to his work for Stars and Stripes where he covered the second World War, and later wrote 4 books on the same topic.

It was in 1978 that Rooney joined the team at ’60 minutes’. For the last 33 years, and 1,097 broadcasts, he has kept us entertained and informed with his often sarcastic rants about a variety of topics to close each show.

During his time in the public spotlight, Rooney has been the recipient of many awards for his work, including 3 Emmy awards.

As he closed his last show on the 2nd of October, just weeks ago, Rooney closed by saying, in classic Andy Rooney style, “I wish I could do this forever. I can’t, though.”

Writers and Americans every wish you well.
