Watch Orion Launch Online Live NASA TV Video Stream After some issues with valves and the weather, NASA’s Orion is ready for a second launch attempt at 7:05am eastern on Friday, Dec. 5. In addition to the national media coverage and live NASA TV broadcast of the launch, viewers from anywhere on the planet can also watch the Orion launch online via live NASA TV video stream.

Thursday’s launch of Orion was scrubbed and rescheduled for this morning “because of an issue related to fill and drain valves on the Delta IV Heavy rocket that teams could not troubleshoot by the time the launch window expired,” according to the NASA web site.

The live NASA television coverage is augmented with streaming video which allows the public to also watch NASA TV online, including major events like today’s historic maden flight of the Orion spacecraft.

Unmanned for this test mission, the Orion spacecraft is carried aloft atop a United Launch Alliance Delta IV Heavy rocket and will orbit the Earth several times from an altitude of 3,600 miles before splashing down in the Pacific.

This first flight will validate a number of systems including the critical re-entry heat shielding and the parachute which lets the spacecraft land safely on the earth – much like the Apollo missions.

The next generation of NASA spacecraft, “Orion is being designed to carry astronauts on exploration missions into deep space, including a trip to an asteroid and eventually to Mars.”
