The World Center for Peace and Unity, a 48,600-square-foot structure which is a part of the international Lumbini Development Project in Nepal is scheduled to open on the 4th of April. The project is a multinational construction effort which has been supported by the government of Nepal and the United Nations.

The plans for the project call for the development of a community consisting of over 40 Buddhist temples in different national styles. According to the news release, planners hope that the center will, “represent friends and devotees of Buddhism whose communities or countries are not represented on the land by any particular monastery.”

The new center was built by the United Trungram Buddhist Fellowship, founded as a non-profit organization by Gyaltrul Rinpoche. Its location in the United Nations’ World Heritage Site in Lumbini, Nepal, is the birthplace of Buddha Shakyamuni.
