Chemistry Now for Chemistry Education

The National Science Foundation announced that it is joining with NBC Learn and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) to celebrate the International Year of Chemistry. To promote the event the groups have unveiled a video series called “Chemistry Now.”

“Chemistry Now” is a weekly, online video series explaining the science of everyday objects like cheeseburgers, chocolates, spices, soaps and plastics and breaks down the chemistry of the changes they undergo each day.

In addition to the science, the series also introduces audiences to the lives of scientists exploring the cutting edge of the frontiers of the 21st century and follows how they work.

The program features a new video each week, which started this past January and runs through May. After a break over the summer, new videos will return in the fall.

NBC Learn is an educational arm of NBC News dedicated to providing resources for students, teachers, and lifelong learners. The site offers primary source materials, lesson plans and classroom planning resources.

On the NBC Learn website (nbclearn.com), additional videos, including current and archival news stories related to chemistry and lesson plans for middle and high school students from the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) are available for both students and educators to access.
