James Durbin Voted off American Idol, shades of Daughtry

As the names were read on American Idol, going from the top four down to three, James Durbin was eliminated from the finals. But many think Durbin will be OK without the show, much like the success of Chris Daughtry.

Durbin performed Journey’s hit “Don’t stop believing” on the show Wednesday night with a great response from the judges and the crowd. Durbin, the “rocker” on this season’s Idol, has been a favorite of the judges and heavily favored by many to win.

This is eerily similar to the season which featured Chris Daughtry. Like Durbin, Daughtry was the “rocker” of the group and heavily favored by many to win. In fact, it was the shock of seeing Daughtry voted off of the show which led to the change in future seasons, giving the judges the ability to “save” someone if they think the viewers go it wrong.

Sadly for Durbin, the judges already used their “save” for this season. But if his future is anything like Daughtry’s, we should not feel too bad for him. Since his departure from Idol, Daughtry has faired better than just about any of the actual Idol winners, with numerous hit songs topping the charts.
