Aereo Inc, the developers of Aereo television, an Online streaming live and recorded television technology service, announced that they will be adding service in September for viewers in areas in and around Miami Florida, Houston and Dallas Texas.
Subscribers in these will soon have access to Aereo’s innovative antenna/DVR technology which will allow them to record and/or watch live network television online on computers and other internet connected mobile devices.
Aereo service will be available in the south Florida counties in and around Miami including Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe beginning September 2, 2013.
New Aereo service in Texas is scheduled to launch on September 16 in Houston and September 23 in Dallas. The Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex region includes some 31 counties across North Texas, while the Aereo online television service in the Greater Houston area will be available for viewers to watch in 20 surrounding counties in the area.
The Aereo service uses an array of small antennas and DVRs to catch HDTV network television broadcast over the air, and then retransmit that live or recorded feed to a user watching the television signal online. With the DVR technology, the user can choose to watch either live TV or record a show for later viewing online.
The service is an alternative to adding local channels to a cable or satellite subscription, and for those traveling, the Aereo service is a great way to watch local programming, such as local news or a local sports team back home.
The Aereo service is available in a variety of rate packages, and is currently supported on the following devices and operating systems: iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Chrome, Internet Explorer 9, Firefox, Safari, Opera, AppleTV (via airplay) and Roku devices. Support for the Android operating system is expected by the end on Summer.
