Just hours ago, at approximately 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, NFL football player and tight-end for the New England Patriots, Aaron Hernandez was arrested at his home by police. As news cameras captured events on video, Massachusetts state police took Hernandez from his home and put him in a police car in handcuffs.
Within hours of the arrest, the Patriots announced that they have released Hernandez from the team. A formal press release from the organization was issued shortly after the team announced the release of Hernandez via their Twitter page. In the statement, the Patriots organization said of the release that, “this transaction was simply the right thing to do.”
The arrest comes days after Hernandez was questioned by police in relation to a homicide victim, semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd, found near the home of the former Patriots TE. The exact charges against Hernandez have not been released by police, and are not expected to be made public until he faces a judge for a bail hearing expected later today.
