According to the L.A. Times, well known actor, first making a name for himself in the popular comedy series “Hogan’s Heroes”, Richard Dawson died over the weekend on Saturday from complications of esophageal cancer. The Times further reported that Dawson have only recently learned of his cancer diagnosis. The actor’s children reported that the diagnosis was made only three weeks ago.
Richard Dawson’s son Gary told reporters that his father actually died from a heart attack while going into the hospital for his first cancer radiation treatment. Dawson’s daughter Shannon indicated that the only warning signs for her father had been what he thought was heartburn, telling Access Hollywood, “He just thought he had heartburn and then he found out he had Stage 4 esophageal cancer.”
While many remember Dawson’s comedic acting style from his WWII POW character on Hogan’s Heroes, millions more undoubtedly remember Dawson as the original host for the still popular game show “Family Feud.”
“The way he was on the game show was the way he was in real life,” Gary Dawson told The Times’ Greg Braxton over the weekend. “He was always rooting for people — he not only wanted people to win, but to have a comfortable, great experience.”
