Baseball Pitcher’s Killer Sentenced
On April 9, 2009, just hours after pitching 6 scoreless innings, rookie pitcher for the Los Angles Angels, Nick Adenhart was killed when a drunk driver ran a red light and crashed into his car. That driver’s sentence was handed down on Wednesday.
Andrew Gallo, age 24, received a sentence of 51 years to life for his crime. Gallo, who was already on probation for felony drunken driving at the time of the accident, had a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.
Gallo apologized to family members of the victims present during his sentencing. In addition to Adenhart, the crash killed his friends 20-year-old Courtney Stewart and 25-year-old Henry Pearson, and severely injured Jon Wilhite, all of whom were in the car with Adenhart when Gallo plowed into them.
