In addition to being the core of the sound Springsteen’s band, Clemons was also a very close friend to Bruce. On his website Bruce Springsteen wrote, “He was my great friend, my partner. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage. His loss is immeasurable and we are honoured and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly forty years.”
Clemons joined up with Springsteen and the E-Street Band in 1972, after already building a name for himself as a solo artist. While he may be best remembered among the general public for his incredible sounds and performances on stage with Bruce, music buffs know the Clemons also teamed up with a host of other musicians. Clemons lent his talents to the likes of Jackson Browne, Ringo Starr, and most recently, Lady Gaga.
Clemons will be missed greatly by his close friends and the music world in general. He leaves behind a legacy of great music, and his four sons – Clarence III, Charles, Christopher and Jarod.
