The service is scheduled to be released by the fall, but the company has not said exactly how much it intends to charge for the online game play. According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, representatives from the company expected the subscription to be under $10 per month.
Reportedly, some of the social networking functions of the online service will be free, there will be charges if users want access to premium content for the game like new maps and things which create a richer experience.
While some are concerned about the decision to charge monthly fees for a game which has to be purchased, Activision is confident in their new model. “We aren’t worried about pushback from gamers about the Call of Duty Elite fee because players will still be able to compete against each other online without subscribing to the service. “Call of Duty” is in a unique position to seek a monthly fee from customers. The game’s previous instalment was the best-selling game last year, with global retail sales of more than $1 billion during its first six weeks on shelves, ” said Bobby Kotick, Activision Blizzard Inc. Chief Executive.
