In contrast to how the media portrayed Chik-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy’s comments in favor of traditional marriage, over Gay marriage, this week millions turned out to show their support of the fast food chain. On Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, many restaurants in the chain set records for sales and had lines out the door as supporters flooded in.
In a statement, Chick-fil-A’s executive vice president of marketing Steve Robinson said, “While we don’t release exact sales numbers, we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day.” According to reports, the turnout of people showing their support of the restaurant’s stand on marriage led to some stores actually running out of chicken.
Robinson went on to say, “We are very grateful and humbled by the incredible turnout of loyal Chick-fil-A customers on August 1 at Chick-fil-A restaurants around the country. We congratulate local Chick-fil-A Owner/Operators and their team members for striving to serve each and every customer with genuine hospitality.”
The Chik-fil-A appreciation day was apparently started by Mike Huckabee via his Facebook page. On his radio show, the former Arkansas Governor said he was “giddy” about the turnout. “People are voting with their feet today.”
