Rather than displaying information about the company, its famous chicken sandwiches, or
Coupons, the front page of the Chick-fil-a website is displaying a picture of its founder – S. Truett Cathy. This comes after the news that the 93 year-old Cathy had passed away.
According to the company, Cathy passed away at peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones at 1:35am on Monday. Cathy opened the first Chick-fil-a in 1967 when the innovative founder of the now $5 billion fast food chain invented the boneless chicken sandwich.
Building a franchise that anyone would be proud to operate, Chick-fil-a is well known for stellar customer service food quality that is far above most in the industry.
In an age of 24-hour everything, and when most companies put profits first, the still privately-held company with deep Southern Baptist roots remains committed to staying closed on Sundays.
From the Chick-fil-a web site: “There will be two public viewings at First Baptist Church Jonesboro, at which the public may pay respects to Truett Cathy. The first is scheduled from 4–7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, following a private family viewing. Another public viewing is scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10, immediately preceding the funeral service.
A public funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church Jonesboro on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m. The public is asked to park at nearby Tara Stadium, 1055 Battle Creek Rd., Jonesboro, GA 30236, and take the shuttle to the funeral. Shuttles will run continuously from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. from Tara Stadium to First Baptist Church Jonesboro and from First Baptist Church Jonesboro to Tara Stadium immediately following the public funeral service until 4:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the Cathy family has asked that donations be made to the WinShape Foundation (http://www.winshape.org/) to further Truett’s legacy of developing and supporting young people.”
