Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy Speaks against Gay Marriage

Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy Speaks against Gay MarriageAccording to the LA Times, president of popular fast food chain Chick-fil-A Dan Cathy has gone on record speaking out against the idea of gay marriage. According to Cathy, Chick-fil-A is in support of “the biblical definition of the family unit.”

The growing and very family oriented chain of resturants was founded by Cathy’s father S. Truett Cathy and is headquartered in Atlanta. Currently, there are a reported 1,608 restaurants in the chain with sales topping $4 billion.

While Chick-fil-A does not claim to be a “Christian business,” according to Cathy, the chain is closed on Sundays and in his interview Cathy explained that the employees are trained “to focus on values rooted in the Bible,” and says that the business does “operate on biblical principles.”

Reports have circulated showing that Chick-fil-A donated more than $3 million between 2003 and 2009 to Christian groups that oppose homosexuality. The information has led to several protests of the company saying that it supports an anti-gay agenda with donations.

While the company denies the allegations of an agenda against gays, when asked about the company’s open opinion that marriage is between a man and a woman, Cathy responded with “Well, guilty as charged.” He continues saying, “We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives.”

The restaurant chain has no plans to back down from its stance on the issue. “We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles,” Cathy said.
