Colorado Wildfires Continue to Surge Forcing Evacuations and Causing Mass DestructionIn what has become one of the most destructive wildfires in history, Colorado Springs and other areas of Colorado and the west have been devastated by the blaze. So far, hundreds of homes have been destroyed as firefighters continue to battle the raging fires.

On Thursday, officials in Colorado Springs have confirmed that more than 30,000 have evacuated from the city and surrounding areas. The city’s mayor, Steve Bach, told reporters that they expect to have an updated count on damages and evacuees as the day continues.

While the exact cause of the wildfires is still uncertain, the fires approaching Colorado Springs is just one of a number of wildfires sweeping the west in areas including Montana and Utah. Once conditions allow for U.S. Forest Service agents to move into the burned areas they hope to better understand the cause of the fires.

With little rain and high temperatures sweeping the west, the conditions have made fighting the wildfires extremely difficult. While temperatures in Colorado are expected to drop a little into the 80’s, the lack of any rain in the forecast will not provide for much help in getting the fires under control.

According to reports from the White House, President Barack Obama plans to tour the fire ravaged sections of Colorado on Friday this week. The President is expected to stop and thank firefighters for their tireless efforts to save homes, property and lives in one of the most devastating wildfires in years.
