Cyber Monday Could Yield Better Deals and Options than Black Friday for 2011

Cyber Monday online deals and discounts

One of thousands of great online sales and discounts offered on Cyber Monday.

While the day after Thanksgiving, known as Black Friday, had traditionally signaled the launch of the Christmas and holiday shopping season, Cyber Monday, just a few days later may be a better opportunity for deals and discounts for consumers.

In recent years, sales statistics have begun to show that Cyber Monday was beginning to reach a similar position among retailers as Black Friday. As the connectivity of the internet has become more imbedded with our culture year after year, retail giants are beginning to see Cyber Monday with greater and greater importance.

This year in fact, retailers are actually combining their in-store Black Friday promotions with similar, and sometimes even better online deals. In effect retailers are moving Cyber Monday up to as early as Thanksgiving night itself.

Some experts, including HLN’s Clark Howard, advise consumers not to fall prey to the mad rush of Black Friday. According to Howard, there is plenty of time left between now and the holidays to take advantage of some great online promotions and discounts from both online only e-tailers, as well as the web sites of traditional retail stores like Wal-mart, Sears, Target and others.

In his estimation, Clark Howard said earlier today on HLN that he believes that one of the best deals this year will be on flat-screen HDTV sets. Howard noted that where the hi-definition televisions were on the top of the list last year for gifts, this year they have fallen off. To make up for the change, retailers and manufacturers are offing incredibly low prices on the HDTVs.

The great online, and even the in-store deals are not expected to end after Black Friday or Cyber Monday, but will instead extend all the way through the holiday season. In a final word of advice, for those looking to purchase an HDTV this year, Howard says that because the flat screen TVs are so reliable, you should never buy an extended warranty.
