Daytona 500 Status with Weather Delays Possible and Danica Patrick set to make History

daytona 500 2012 status rain delay danica patrickAs fans of NASCAR get ready for the start of one of the biggest races of the year, the Daytona 500, many eyes and ears are focused on the weather. Rain and storms in the forecast for Sunday and Monday have many wondering about the status of the Daytona 500 and any changes to the start time of the race. So far so good.

In addition to the shorter races and all of the festivity that comes with the big race week at Daytona, a lot of attention this year has focused on Danica Patrick who had a race ending crash earlier in the week.

This is Danica Patrick’s first Daytona 500, but certainly not her first time in the spotlight at a big race. Patrick was the first woman driver to finish 3rd in the Indy 500 race. Now that she has moved from the Indy cars into the stock cars of NASCAR, all eyes are on her at this year’s Daytona 500.

Some of the recent race results from the other races at Daytona this week include, Friday night’s Truck race saw John King win in his first start at Daytona. On Saturday, James Buescher took the checkered flag in the Drive4COPD 300 Nationwide series season opener.

Of NASCAR’s three national series races, the Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Trucks, only the Sprint Cup at the Daytona 500 remains to complete all of the race activity for the 2012 race week in Daytona.
