Ex-Gator Coach Loses to Old Arch Rival

In what was something of a flashback for Steve Spurrier who had faced the Florida Seminoles many times during his years as head coach for the Florida Gators,  the current coach for South Carolina was not able to defeat his old arch rival team on Friday.

Despite losing senior quarterback Christian Ponder to a concussion, the Florida Seminoles managed to hold off South Carolina as they tried to stage a comeback in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. In the end, the Gamecocks fell to the 10 -4 Seminoles by a final score of 26-17. This was Spurrier’s third consecutive loss in a Bowl game since taking the job as Gamecocks’ head coach six years ago.

While it was ultimately FSU which came away from the 2010 season with a bowl game win, both teams are looking forward to next year. Each team should be coming back in 2011 with a strong number of returning players from this year. Estimates are 16 players back for FSU and about 15 for South Carolina.
