According to insider reports, the Yahoo board made the selection of Marissa Mayer based on her knowledge and understanding of the “user” experience. The board wanted an individual who could get Yahoo back into relevancy in internet user interaction with products that encompass more than just search.
Mayer was at the core of Google, reportedly the number 20 employee, and was an integral part of building the internet giant into the dominant force that it is today. Not only is Mayer’s insight likely to be just what Yahoo needs, say experts, but her stature and background should help the struggling company to attract the new talent it needs to rebuild.
The task ahead of Mayer is not an easy one. As mentioned earlier, Yahoo has goe through 5 Chief’s since 2007, and most recently, 2 in just this year. If successful, Mayer could be heralded with one of the most impressive corporate about faces in history.
Looking forward to the opportunity, Mayer said in an interview, “Yahoo is a company with an amazing following, terrific brand and huge amount of potential…” adding that she is “just very excited to work with the many talented employees at Yahoo to take those products to the next level.”
