The tradition was started by FreeShipping.org web site founderfounder Luke Knowles, who envisioned a shopping holiday. The idea was to hold the event in mid-December with thousands of merchants offering not only free shipping, but also guaranteeing delivery by Christmas Eve.
The idea is a reality and each year the number of brand name retailers participating has grown dramatically. In fact, Free Shipping day last year, which fell on December 17th set a record $1 billion in Internet sales.
The sales last year made Free Shipping Friday the third largest online spending day in US history.
Some of the more than 2000 merchants who will participate in the Free Shipping event are names like JCPenney, Macy’s, Dell, Neiman Marcus, Disney Store, DSW and Kohl’s, and many more.
Consumers win with the event because it allows them to find great deals on Christmas gifts with free shipping and guaranteed delivery in time for Christmas. All offers and coupon codes will be revealed on Friday, December 16, 2011 on the FreeShippingDay.com web site.
