Following on the heels of the Black Friday and now Cyber Monday holiday shopping deals, a new shopping deal date for Christmas shopping this year has been announced. The date is December 16th, and it is known as “Free Shipping Day.”
According to FreeShipping.org, the site’s founder Luke Knowles envisioned a shopping holiday held mid-December where thousands of merchants would offer free shipping with delivery by Christmas Eve.
After just three years, his Free Shipping Day has become a reality, and word of the upcoming day to get free shipping from thousands of major retailers is spreading.
Last year nearly $1 billion in Internet sales were recorded on December 17, making the 2010 Free Shipping Day the third largest online spending day in US history.
Over 1,750 merchants, including JCPenney, Macy’s, Dell, Neiman Marcus, Disney Store, DSW and Kohl’s, participated in the third-annual event which was more than double from the previous year.
This year, the company expects more than 2,000 retailers will participate in Free Shipping Day 2011. The event is welcomed by retailers and consumers alike. For consumers is allows them to find great deals on Christmas gifts with free shipping and guaranteed delivery in time for Christmas.
