This week as we marked the summer solstice, GRID Alternatives San Diego and Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox were joined by Sullivan Solar Power to celebrate what they dubbed, “the largest collective deployment of residential solar in the city’s history,” which included a donation of 29 solar panels to local low-income households.
During the ceremony, a team of volunteers working with GRID Alternatives were able to complete the installation of a rooftop solar power system on the home of a family of 7 in Chula Vista.
“We decided to go solar because of the environmental benefits, and we wanted to save money on our electricity bill,” said Elizabeth Yescas-Beitia. “Our family is grateful to have solar for free through the GRID Alternatives program, and we are appreciative to all the Sullivan Solar Power customers in Chula Vista who helped make it happen.”
Sullivan Solar Power is one of the largest solar power companies in the state of California. The Chula Vista Solar Program which the company recently launched has created 204,412 watts of solar power in a state where energy is a premium.
For each of the 29 who participated in the program, Sullivan Solar Power donated one locally manufactured solar panel to GRID Alternatives which is the California Solar Initiative administrator of the SASH (Single-family Affordable Solar Homes) program. As a result of the donations, three low-income homes in the area received free solar power installations.
“Partnering with GRID Alternatives aligns with our solar programs which are designed to help entire communities go solar,” said Daniel Sullivan, founder and president of Sullivan Solar Power. “Not only did Chula Vista residents get paid to go solar for their new solar projects, they helped their neighboring families like the Yescas enjoy the same energy savings.”
