Gamma Normids Meteor Shower to Reach its Peak Tonight

Gamma Normids Meteor Shower to Reach its Peak TonightStargazers looking for a meteor shower are in luck tonight as the Gamma Normids meteor shower is expected to reach its peak intensity. Unfortunately, the event is not expected to produce much more than a frequency of a few meteors per hour.

Peak intensity of the Gamma Normids is expected to occur a 5am local time for viewers. As can be seen in the animated image provided by the Star Walk app for mobile devices, the Gamma (y) Normids will appear to emanate from a position trailing behind the moon in the night sky.

Gamma Normids Meteor Shower to Reach its Peak Tonight
At its peak time, viewers in the Southern latitudes (25S) can expect to have the best viewing results during the early morning hours, seeing as many as 6 meteors per hour.

As usual, viewing success also depends on the amount of light pollution in your area. For best results it is preferred to view from an area away from urban lights.

While the peak intensity of the Gamma Normids happens tonight, viewing conditions are expect to improve as the week progresses, as the moon will light up the night sky for shorter durations night after night.
