Gasoline Crosses the $3 Mark

In something a kin to coal in the stocking for the American consumer, AAA reported that on Christmas day this year that gas prices crossed the $3 mark to land at $3.013 for the national average.

It is the first time in over two years that the price of gas has gone above $3 nationwide when gas prices reached their highest average levels of $4.11. According to the reports, 26 states are above the mark with California leading the way for the contiguous 48 with a price of $3.27 per gallon. Colorado came in with the lowest prices nationwide at $2.75 on average.

The climb in prices has been very slow and was not enough to deter travelers. Perhaps because holiday plans were already made as prices made a stealthy climb, people didn’t factor them into their thinking. The data from AAA forecasts that just a little less than 86 million people will take to the highways to spread their holiday cheer.
