Smoot’s body was discovered on the bus while the band was driving into Canada during their tour, according to the GWAR band manager Jack Flanagan. The bank, based in Richmond VA, was scheduled to perform in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta this weekend.
Neither Flanagan nor the band’s label, Metal Blade, have released any additional information about Smoot or what may have happened. There is also currently no additional information regarding funeral arrangements, or the band’s plans for the remainder of the tour.
In a statement to the press, GWAR Lead singer Dave Brockie, a.k.a “Oderus Urungus,” said that “at this point we are just dealing with the loss of our dear friend and brother.” Brockie went on to say that Smoot was “one of the most talented guitar players in metal today.”
