HLN Coverage of Jodi Arias Sentencing Video Continues Online as Jury Deliberates over Death Penalty

On Thursday the Jodi Arias trial entered the final sentencing phase as the jury heard arguments from both sides over whether or not to sentence Arias to death, or life in prison. This afternoon, online live video from the courtroom continues as HLN continues their television coverage.

On Wednesday, the jury came back with a finding that there was the aggravating factor of “cruelty” in the murder of Travis Alexander at the hands of Arias. This brought the aggravation phase of the murder trial to closure, which now leaves us at sentencing.

The prosecution is trying to convince the jury that Arias deserves the Death Penalty, while the defense is pleading for a sentence of Life in Prison. Whichever way the jury decides, the judge will be compelled to rule. The jury decision in this case is not a recommendation and therefore the judge is not able to disregard their decision.

After the defense’s opening statement, the prosecution addressed the jury. Next Travis Alexander’s brother and sister each read a statement to the jury pleading for them to show no mercy for the woman who brutally killed their brother and destroyed their family.
