While Apple appears to have cornered the market on innovation in the computer industry, HP may have inadvertently stumbled upon the right price point to storm the market for tablet computers.
The former computer giant had struggled with the HP Touchpad tablet with a price of about $500. Despite now offering a discontinued item, the recent prices ranging from $99 to $250 seems to have found a sweet spot with consumers. The HP tablets are absolutely flying off of the shelves.
On eBay and other online sites the bidding for the HP Touchpads is furious. Earlier this week, computer manufacturer HP announced that it will be selling off its personal computer division. As part of that move the company also announced that it will discontinue the manufacture of its Touchpad / Tablet PC which was designed to compete with the Apple iPad.
For consumers who have already purchased the HP Touchpad tablet pc at full price, some good news from retailer Best Buy. The company has announced that it will extend the return policy on the Touchpad to 60 days. The store will offer to refund or trade customers to a different manufacturer product.
