Hurricane Sandy Update: Storm Movement Slowing but Intensity Remains Strong based on Projected Path Status National Weather ServiceAccording to the most recent updated information from the National Weather Service, the path of Hurricane Sandy has not changed much, but the movement of the storm is slowing. The center of the hurricane is currently forecast to make landfall on the coast of the Northeast early Monday evening.

While the slowing of the hurricane’s movement will give those in the areas of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania a little more time to prepare, the intensity of the storm has not diminished. The slower track of hurricane Sandy likely means that the storm will spend more time drenching the Northeast in rain and winds.

After landfall Monday evening, Sandy will slowly move east into central PA by Tuesday afternoon, and then turn to track north reaching upstate New York by Wednesday afternoon. By Thursday, hurricane Sandy’s projected path takes it into the rest of New England, and then crossing the border into Canada by Friday afternoon.

Power outages are expected to be widespread across all of the areas in the path of the hurricane and residents are urged to prepare with batteries, lanterns, flashlights, water and foods that can be made without power.
