With only weeks to go until Halloween, pumpkin carving in many areas has already begun. For some of the best pumpkin carving tips as well as downloading free pumpkin carving templates and patterns, nothing beats the internet as a top resource.
For generations the annual carving of the Halloween pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern has become a fun way for kids and parents to bond. Jack-o-lanterns come in a variety of faces and expressions. With the advent of social media sites, allowing people to post pictures of their carved pumpkins, many are trying to one-up their friends with more clever, funny or creative pumpkin carvings.
Using pumpkin carving templates, which can be downloaded for free from a number of web sites online, makes it easy for virtually anyone to make a professional looking jack-o-lantern.
As we mentioned in an earlier article, Using a pattern is one of the easiest and fastest ways to carve your pumpkin into a professionally done jack-o-lantern. Here are the easy steps to follow:
Download and print out some free pumpkin carving patterns or templates. (If needed, you can then scale the pattern to size is you have a very large or very small pumpkin.) The next step it to attach the template to your pumpkin with some tape.
Rather than try to carve the pumpkin with the template attached, the experts say to use a very small knife to make some small incisions creating a dotted-line of the template through the paper. Next remove the paper template to reveal the outline on your pumpkin. Now with a larger knife you can begin to make the deep cuts through the pumpkin.
Remember to clean the inside of the pumpkin out removing all of the pulp and pumpkin seeds first. You can read some of our related articles for some pumpkin seed recipes as they are a delicious and very nutritious snack.
