Internet Viewers Watch Casey Anthony Trial Live as Day 4 Begins

Today starts the 4th day of the trial of Casey Anthony. In addition to the live feed carried on some cable channels on television, viewers can also watch the Casey Anthony trial live over the internet. Anthony is on trial for the murder of her 2 year old daughter Caylee Anthony who went missing in 2008 and was later found dead.

Last week the jury selection process took place with a vast amount of media coverage. The courts had a hard time filling all of the juror positions as many potential jurors had to back out. The individuals cited financial hardships which would result from being sequestered for an estimated 6 week which the trial is expected to last.

This week began the actual trial. After opening statements from both sides, this week has been the defense’s turn to present their case. Jose Baez, lead attorney for Anthony’s defense has been working to create and atmosphere of reasonable doubt in the minds of the jury, and the viewing public.

The prosecutions case is based on circumstantial evidence. While the evidence does lean heavily against Anthony, there is, for the prosecution, no actual “smoking gun” in this case. So far this week, it appears that the defense is focused on Casey’s father George Anthony as a possible scapegoat. While there is no compelling evidence against Mr. Anthony, the defense strategy is to come up with plausible alternatives to the murder, thus creating reasonable doubt in the mind of the jurors.
