In an announcement from the Tennessee Titans organization earlier today, the media was informed that Jeff Fisher will remain as head coach for the 2011 football season.
In a statement from the team, owner Bud Adams said, “I appreciate all of our fans’ patience over the last week while I deliberated on the immediate future of the football team. I have informed our senior management that Jeff Fisher will be our head coach next season.”
Fisher had been regarded as a top NFL coach after taking the Titans to the Super Bowl in their first season in their new stadium after moving to Tennessee in 1999. The team had remained a contender for many seasons since the year of the “music city miracle”, but has fallen on hard times recently.
The death of quarterback Steve McNair, and the controversy surrounding his shooting, was a distraction for the team last year, and more controversy continued this season as players openly challenged the coaches decisions and direction for the team. The result was a disappointing 6-10 finish for the 2010 season.
Overall Fisher has a solid record with 142 wins as a coach in the league and, as such, Adams decided that he would let the coach finish out the final year of his current contract.
