Jessica Ennis Wins Heptathlon but Says She will not compete in 100m Hurdles at London 2012 OlympicsAfter her dramatic victory in the Heptathlon in the 2012 London Olympics, Jessica Ennis has announced that she will not be competing in the 100m hurdles. Ennis reportedly said that she will instead celebrate her gold medal win in the heptathlon with “a few glasses of wine” and “lots of rubbish food.”

Jessica Ennis won her heptathlon gold on Friday with a score of 6,955 points. While Ennis set a personal record time in the 100m hurdles during the heptathlon, she said that her decision not to compete in that event individually was based on her body’s need for rest.

During her interview with the BBC, Ennis said in reference to deciding whether or not to compete in the 100m hurdles, “I did think about it, especially when I ran my personal best, but for me, it’s just about the heptathlon. I’m more than happy coming away with this medal. I think my body needs a rest right now. I want to have a bit of a break now, switch off a bit and enjoy life, but I want to achieve a bit more.”

When speaking about the crowd of some 80,000 on hand cheering on their hometown favorite, Ennis said, “The crowd was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. I do enjoy competing in front of big crowds and having the support behind me. It was unbelievable in there.” Ennis continued, “The crowd was so loud it have me goosebumps and made me want to raise my game that little bit more.”
