On Monday this week, Lance Armstrong reportedly completed a video interview with Oprah Winfrey in which he is to have finally confessed and admitted to the doping allegations against him. The public will be able to watch the Lance Armstrong video interview with Oprah on Thursday.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the video interview with Oprah is part of Lance Armstrong’s attempt to restore his public image in the wake of the current lifetime ban from cycling by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for the use of performance-enhancing drugs. After years of denial of the allegations against him, last year Armstrong stopped fighting. Now it appears that he is ready to come clean.
Since his retirement from competitive professional cycling, Lance Armstrong has taken up triathlons. This competitive sport combines swimming, cycling and running, requiring an enormous amount of physical endurance. Reportedly, part of Armstrong’s interview and confession are an attempt to help clear the way for him to compete in triathlons.
It is currently unclear what affect the video interview confession by Armstrong may have on any remaining legal issues faced by the cyclist. His prior denial of any doping had protected him from criminal prosecution. By admitting to the use of performance-enhancing drugs, Armstrong could be opening himself up again.
