In an announcement that undoubtly disappointed a number of skiing and Olympic fans, Olympic medalist Lindsey Vonn said that she will not be able to compete in the 2014 Winter Olympic Game in Sochi.
Vonn cites her knee injury, which will require additional surgery as the cause for her decision. Lindsay Vonn made the announcement via her Facebook page on Tuesday.

“I am devastated to announce that I will not be able to compete in Sochi,” Vonn’s post read.
Vonn first injured her right knee knee at the world championships almost a year ago and had reconstructive surgery to repair it. The four-time World Cup overall champion reinjured her knee in November – but had been optimistic about her chances to still compete in the Olympics in Sochi.
“I did everything I possibly could to somehow get strong enough to overcome having no ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), but the reality has sunk in that my knee is just too unstable to compete at this level,” Vonn told CNN. “I’m having surgery soon so that I can be ready for the World Championships at home in Vail next February.”
