Manufacturer Triad Group Recalls Alcohol Wipes

Alcohol pads used for, among other things, cleaning an area prior to administering a vaccine or drawing blood from a patient, were part of a worldwide recall that was announced on Friday of this week.

The recall, from manufacturer Triad Group, covers all lots of isopropyl alcohol prep pads, swabs, and swabsticks made by the company and sold in Canada, Europe, and the United States. The reason cited for the recall is a possible contamination of a bacterium known as Bacillus Cereus. While not deadly, the bacteria can cause a skin infection in persons coming in contact with it.

The products are available for purchase over-the-counter by consumers, but are also sold to hospitals and pharmacies. According to the manufacturer, the items are marketed under various names as is typical with products sold in multiple parts of the world. The brand names consumers and professionals should look for are: Cardinal Health, PSS Select, VersaPro, Boca/Ultilet, Moore Medical, Walgreens, CVS, and Conzellin. Questions can be directed to the company by calling 262-538-2900.
