If you were hoping for better Black Friday sale deals over last year, you may be disappointed says at least one survey. According to information gathered by NerdWallet, many of the 2012 Black Friday Ads have many of the same sale items and the exact same Black Friday deal prices as last year.
In the survey, NerdWallet found that 20 out of 22 2012 Black Friday ads had at least one product at the same price as in their 2011 Black Friday ad. Prior to getting in line for the big sales this year, it will pay to do some research based on the ads.
Additionally, the survey indicated that, in some cases, consumers will be paying higher prices for items over the deals prices from last year. One example of this is that Modell’s Sporting Goods will be selling the Timberland Men’s Padded Collar Classic Boots for $79.99 this Black Friday. This is a price increase of $10 from the $69.99 price last year.
Looking at the median item price at Walmart, Target and Best Buy, the survey found an increase from 2011 to 2012. This indicates that overall consumers should prepare to spend more on Black Friday 2012 at three of the most popular Black Friday retailers.
The median price on Black Friday deals has gone up from $12.73 to $15.00 at Walmart, from $12.99 to $14.99 at Target, and from $29.99 to $35.00 at Best Buy. The survey cites the strengthening position of retail as a possible explanation for the increase. Merchant confidence is soaring due to the most optimistic predictions on holiday buying since the recession.
