The team at JPL in Pasadena broke into cheers and tears as the Curiosity rover relayed the first data back to Earth indicating that the rover had completed a successful touchdown on the surface of Mars right on time at 1:32am eastern today.
In the image you can see the JPL team celebrating as the first hi-resolution black and white pictures stream back from Mars. Once some checks are completed more detailed hi-resolution color images with begin to flow back to Earth as well. More Mars images can be seen at the bottom of the page.
