Continuing a trend towards more immediate access to media content, MLB.com will continue to stream live Major League Baseball games for the 2011 season. The first of many games available in this format started today with three spring training games.
The Philadelphia Phillies vs. the New York Yankees at 1:05 p.m. EST, the Atlanta Braves vs. the New York Mets just 5 minutes after that, and the Colorado Rockies vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks at 3:10 p.m. EST will kick off the new season for fans. In total over 150 spring training games will be streamed live this season. Spring Training games will air from the camps in Florida and Arizona.
For the entire 2011 season, baseball fans will have to ability to watch their teams over the internet from virtually anywhere. Internet streamed broadcasts will include all of the spring training games, as well as all out-of-market games of the regular season.
Since they started the service, available as a subscription to MLB.TV, over one billion live streams have been served. The service delivered one quarter of that volume last season and it is currently one of the largest subscription video offerings on the Internet.
