NASCAR drivers have been racing this past week, known as “speed week”, in an effort to earn their starting positions in Sunday’s Daytona 500 race. The race will be broadcast live from the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, FL.
The week leading up to the 500 is filled with qualifying races and other entertainment for the fans of NASCAR. Kurt Busch won the 75-lap shootout race in an overtime battle. This win, along with a win in his qualifying race has secured the 3rd spot in the start on Sunday.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. had secured the pole position for the state of the 500, but after a crash during practice, Earnhardt will now have to start at the back of the pack.
Other racers qualifying near the front of the pack for the big race are, 2-time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip, Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick, and Clint Bowyer who qualified for the first time in NASCAR’s most prestigious race.
