Olympic Champion Hannah Teter, who will be competing in the U.S. Open Snowboarding finals this weekend, has joined a group of several other professional athletes who are leading the fight against child poverty through Children International. Teter will be featured in several television and internet promotional announcements about the organization.

The agency, founded in 1936, is a U.S.-based humanitarian organization which currently helps over 335,000 children and their families in 11 countries throughout the world. Teter, a two-time medalist, was also joined by Snowboarder Gabi Viteri and Nike 6.0 surfer Monyca Byrne-Wickey on a recent visit to Children International’s agency in Guadalajara, Mexico. There the group learned more about the needs of the poor children there and how Children International can help.

“Children International is bringing a lot of hope to families who start out with nothing. They have nothing. Then Children International comes in, puts them in school, gets them what they need,” said Teter.

Teter, has been a supporter of Children International since 2007 and currently sponsors seven children whose families live in extreme poverty. In fact, the athlete has committed to donate 40% of the proceeds from her clothing line to Children International’s nutrition program. Like other children receiving assistance from the program, the children sponsored by Teter are able to receive important medical check-ups, dental care, nutritional support and educational assistance.

Children International’s President and CEO Jim Cook said, “We are so grateful to Hannah Teter for being such a dedicated advocate on behalf of impoverished children. Her efforts are changing the lives of so many children around the world.”
