Each year as the launch day for the holiday shopping season approaches, retailers gear up for the season with Black Friday in-store promotions. But as the Monday after Thanksgiving, known as Cyber Monday, has grown in popularity most brick and mortar retailers have begin offering the same of similar Black Friday online deals.
According to retail sales figures, last year’s Cyber Monday shopping revenue closely rivaled that of the in-store numbers on Black Friday. To avoid missing any holiday sale opportunities this year retailers like Barnes & Noble and Walmart offered their Black Friday deals online as well as in-store.
Some retail stores like Walmart also remained open for 24 hours to avoid the mad rush when the doors open, which has actually resulted in injury in years past.
Analysts expect overall sales numbers for the holiday season to be marginally lower over last years due to the still sluggish economy and unemployment figures. Whether the online sales will surpass the in-store numbers over the weekend and into Cyber Monday remains to be seen. Clearly, however, retailers realize that online holiday shopping is a growing trend, and they are taking steps to ensure that they do not miss out on your business.
