In what is one of the latest displays of absolute disrespect for others from the next generation of children, owed to a complete lack of discipline from parents, a viral internet video shows an elderly School Bus Monitor (Karen Klien) being taunted, bullied and even threatened with bodily harm from a group of seventh grade school children.
Since the video hit youtube, there has been massive public outrage over the behavior of the children, and also anger aimed at the parents of such disrespectful and ill-mannered school age “brats.” Some of the families have even reported receiving death threats.
In the video (watch below) Mrs. Klien can be seen maintaining her composure and not lashing out at the children before finally beginning to shed some tears during the malicious volley of insults and threats to her person.
While the names of the “little animals” have been withheld because of their status as minors, one parent has so far come forward to apologize for the behavior of his child in the incident.
Robert Helm said of the behavior of his son, “There’s no excuse. And we’re going to get to the bottom of that, but it really broke my heart and I shed a lot of tears thinking about that whole thing and I just want you to know that my family, all of us, are deeply saddened by this whole thing and we’re going to get it right.”
It is unfortunate that more parents have not come forward. But given the behavior of the children, and the obvious lack of parenting and discipline, it should not come as a surprise that the parents are not respectful enough to come forward and apologize.
On a brighter note, the thousands of individuals who are disturbed by the video have come forward and made donations to Klien, a grandmother of eight, to the tune of over $450,000 so far. The donations have come into a web site entitled “Let’s Give Karen The Bus Monitor a Vacation.”
Many around the country are calling for officials to take strong action and make an example of the children and their deplorable behavior. Most believe that the children should have to perform community service and be banned from the school bus for a time so that the parents feel the impact as well. Still others believe that the children should be suspended from school for their bullying behavior as part of a zero tollerence policy against bullying.
