PGA Golf Update 2012 U.S. Open Leaderboard: Slow and Short Play Lead to changes in the lead going in Final Round Sunday
What had been fast greens leading to a number of birdie putts on the first two days of the PGA Golf 2012 U.S. Open changed dramatically during play Saturday during day three of the tournament. The result was a remarkable number of players leaving putts short as much slower greens, and second shots short of greens, led to a lot of movement on the leaderboard.

As the day began, a three way tie at one under par between Woods, Furyk and Toms changed quickly. While all three players dropped a stroke with a bogie on the opening hole, only Furyk seemed to adapt well to the change in playing conditions maintaining control at the top of the 2012 US Open leaderboard throughout Saturday.

Tiger remained close throughout the afternoon struggling on some holes and recovering on others, dropping to +2 with several other players and remaining there throughout the day.

While the day 2 leaders, with the exception of Furyk, struggled on the day, other players adapted to the conditions and moved up from 4 and 5 off the lead to pull within just a few strokes of the lead. Among those climbing the leaderboard headed for Sunday’s final round of the 2012 US Open were, Ernie Els at +2, Beau Hossler, a 17-year old amateur moving up to +3, Colsaerts, Jacobson and Graeme McDowell who all made up a lot of ground on several birdies throughout game play, at times sharing the lead with Furyk.

In the end McDowell moved into sole possession of the lead at -1 until Furyk birdied the 17th securing a tie for the lead with McDowell. The two will play together in the final group as the final round of the 2012 US Open gets underway on Sunday from The Olympic Club.
