– With the fiscal year-end approaching for many businesses, and a new one just around the corner, a Dec. 14 seminar at Jannsen + Company will help companies maximize their productivity with the popular QuickBooks accounting software.

“QuickBooks Fundamentals” will explain the most important steps to effectively using QuickBooks. Topics will include setting up a company within the program, recording income and expenses, reconciling bank statements, and creating reports. The seminar will open with a brief primer on accounting basics, such as accounting methods, reviewing a chart of accounts, and understanding accounting terms.

“QuickBooks Fundamentals” will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the Jannsen Center, W239-N3490 Pewaukee Road, Pewaukee (southeast corner of Highway 164 and Capitol Drive). The cost is $25 per person.

Nicole Schmitz, a QuickBooks ProAdvisor with Jannsen + Company, will lead the seminar. Schmitz’s ProAdvisor certification recognizes her expertise in working with businesses to customize QuickBooks for their specific needs, and helping them get the most from the Intuit software program. The holder of a master’s degree in professional accountancy, Schmitz is also a practicing accountant in the areas of audits and corporate taxes.

“QuickBooks is a great program that, when set up and used correctly, can save businesses a tremendous amount of time and money,” Schmitz said. “This seminar will cover the parts of QuickBooks that every user should know and be working with, so that they can confidently close out their 2010 finances and have their books ready for a fresh start in 2011.”
